“Heaven on Earth,” a Canadian natural foods store, is among the first retailers in Canada to commit to not selling genetically engineered (GE) apples.

Dozens of B.C. food retailers have responded with an emphatic ‘no’ when we asked whether they planned to sell the Arctic apples,” said Gil Sampson, a Qualicum Beach member of the Society for a Genetically Engineered Free B.C.

The non-browning GE “Arctic apple” was developed in British Columbia and approved by the USDA in February 2015 and by the FDA in March 2015, becoming the first genetically modified apple approved for US sale.
